Doris Mae Hjorth Caywood, 82, of Woodburn, OR peacefully passed on Tuesday September 15, 2015 to be with her heavenly father.
Doris was born April 18, 1933 to Mable Hansen and Peter Hjorth in McIntosh, South Dakota. Doris was raised and went to school in Fruitland, Idaho along with her brothers Jimmy and Larry. She loved the rural life, riding her bike and swimming in the river with her best friend Joan. Living the farm life, she learned to work in the fields and pack fruit. She even earned the title of the fastest prune ring facer in Payette County! Doris graduated from Fruitland High School Fruitland High with honors. She went on to Beauty School during her senior year and then got her Instructors license. She started the Beauty School in Ontario under Treasure Valley College. Doris also lived and worked in Anchorage and Kenai, AK; Emmett, ID; and various locations in Oregon. Besides being the mother of four children, Doris's other occupations were: Dental Assistant, Receptionist, and Office Manager. She worked 50 years! She had such passion for the customers and loved them all. She loved working with people! She was also very active in church and organizations. She was on the very first live Adult Bible Study Program on TV in Anchorage "Bible for Today." She was active in Beta Sigma Phi and Women's Aglow. She also worked to get the first World Day of Prayer established. She was President of SW Idaho Dental Assistants Association. Doris was always professional and fashionable, but how she did love to wear costumes and decorate for occasions. She loved a good laugh and was quite the prankster. She was an excellent designer, decorator, and landscaper, which she did in all of her homes. She loved good food and was an excellent cook and entertainer. She loved flowers and gardening. Doris was also an avid painter of flowers, landscapes and seascapes. She loved to dance especially to a Tennessee Waltz. The true love of her life was to go RVing in the mountains or at the Oregon Coast.
Doris is survived by her daughter Cathy Stingley and precious dog Missy, Woodburn, OR; son Bruce Stingley and spouse Julie, grandsons, Spencer and Austin, Eagle River, AK; son Russell Stingley and spouse Lana, grandson Richard, Westport, WA and grandson Alan Conquest and spouse Carolyn with three grandchildren, Phoenix, AZ; daughter Susan, Boise, ID and spouse Rick Russell, Redding, CA; ex-husband Richard Caywood, Delta, CO; stepson, Charlie Caywood and spouse Celeste, granddaughters Dallas Rae and Jordan Taylor, Pagosa Springs, CO; stepson Clayton Caywood, spouse Melissa, granddaughter Meagan and grandson Cole , Cedaridge, CO; stepdaughter, Teresa Katt and spouse Jeff, granddaughter Angel, Kristin, grandson Gerad and five great grandchildren Grand Junction, CO; brother Jimmie Hjorth and spouse Elizabeth, West Linn, OR; and Larry Hjorth and spouse Marjory, Great Falls, MT and four nephews; and stepsister Amy Leder, Woodburn, OR.
Doris's mother, father, stepfather TK Jensen, and three husbands; Lewis Tharp, Dr. Richard Stingley, and Frank Heavrin preceded her death. She is now with her friends and family in heaven.
A "Celebration of Life" rejoicing Doris's life and love of sharing her passion for her precious Lord will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Woodburn Foursquare Church, 1175 East Lincoln Street, Woodburn, Oregon 97071, 503-981-5581. A luncheon will follow. Donations in honor of Doris can be sent to the Woodburn Foursquare Church.
