Dennis Fredrick Wilmes passed away on February 11 at the age of 65. Dennis was born on September 12, 1950 in Woodburn, Oregon to Fred and Patricia Wilmes. He spent most of his life living on the family farm near Butteville. He attended North Marion schools and graduated in 1969. After High School Dennis enlisted in the National Guard and served for 6 years. His first job was working in the rock business dredging rock out of the Willamette River. He spent many years working for Canby Sand and Gravel and most recently Tigard Sand and Gravel where he retired in 2012. He was a long time member of the Operating Engineers Union.
Dennis had a great love for motorcycles, old cars, rocks, bulldozers, heavy loaders, his extensive watch fob collection and frogs. Dennis is survived by his brother Joe Wilmes, sisters Elizabeth Niggli and Kathy Layton, 7 nieces and nephews and 6 grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Pahl and his parents.
Visitation Fri. Feb. 19, 2016 at Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel from 1-5 PM.
Rosary will be held at Simon-Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn on Friday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church on Saturday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following. A graveside service at St. Luke's cemetery will commence immediately follow the luncheon.
