Obituary

On April 6, 2015, Dennis Daniel Glennon passed on in his home in the arms of his two sons and loving family. Dan shared his heart and life with Mary Vanhandel and referred to their 16 years together as the happiest partner relationship of his life. We love you for this Mary, thank you.

Dan was born on June 12, 1935 in Elko Nevada. He was the 2nd youngest of 12 brothers and sisters born to Mary Margret and Patrick Joseph Glennon. When sharing stories of his childhood, Dan was always sure to include a special mention to his beloved mother, a dash of laughter, and lesson learned. Dan regarded his families hardships and triumphs with great pride and unconditional love.

Dan married Diane Rebecca Hammock in 1957. They bought a home in Elko Nevada and had three beautiful children, two sons and a daughter. Dan worked for Bellinger Auto parts until their decision to move to Salem Oregon in 1967. He secured a position with Salem Auto Parts as a Parts Specialist until 1972 when he made the decision to purchase and operate the Woodburn Arctic Circle. Dan was a successful business owner and earned the "Highest Operations Award" for fifteen consecutive years. Though he was very proud of his successes, he was most touched by the people who remembered him for being a fair and compassionate employer. After selling the Arctic Circle and retiring from the restaurant industry in 1991, Dan went to work for Lind's Market. There he enjoyed working and building relationships with fellow employees and with the local customers. In 1996, he accepted a position with the local NAPA Auto parts as a Parts Manager. He spoke very fondly of his fellow employees and customers and enjoyed his time there where he worked most recently before falling ill.

Dan valued family and friends above all. His bond with his children and grandchildren were precious and held dearly. Dan attended the St. John Fisher Catholic Church where he and his partner, Mary, had many friends. He was interested in his community and enjoyed serving on the Woodburn City Council. He was very active in The Silverton Elks, The Woodburn Eagles and was promoted to Worshipful Master with the Woodburn Masonic Lodge. Dan was also awarded the "Senior First Citizen" from the City of Woodburn in 1991. If one thing was clear, touching lives and making friendships was necessary to his life.

Dan enjoyed reading, history, woodworking and was popular for his handyman skills as well, but for those who truly knew Dan, it was his love for poetry, story telling and dancing that brought him endless joy. With passion and timing, he encompassed a gift to carry one through a poem, joke or crazy story as if they were witnessing it with their own eyes, whether it be the first time hearing or it or the fifth. His genuine smile and laughter were infectious and the sparkle in his eyes captivated the attention of any crowd. When dancing, his love of movement, his natural rhythm of music and his promise of a warm and steady arm, made him irresistible and may have caused a few lovers quarrels. We apologize if so, this wasn't the intention. ??

Those arms, that laughter and those sparkling eyes, they will be missed-- that we assure you.

Dan is survived by his youngest sister, Julie Glennon Lemon, her three children, Danny Sheen, Kellie Drake and Linda Lemon Shafer and family. Son's, Stacey and Barney Glennon, Daughter in Law, Kayte Glennon, Grandson, Noah Glennon and Granddaughter, Lilly Glennon.
Yes, of course there are many more nieces, nephews and cousins, he loved you all.
