Chester Carroll Priestley, March 6, 1932 to November 1, 2013.Chester Priestley, 81, of Tualatin, Oregon passed away November 1st, at home with his family. He went peacefully in his sleep, from complications associated with Alzheimer's. Chester was a lifelong resident of Portland, son of Carroll & Maxine Priestley. He attended Franklin and Washington High Schools. Chet married Darlene Jeske, his high school sweetheart, in 1951. They were married for 55 years, separated by Darlene's death from cancer in 2006. Chet worked in his father's moving business, Priestley & Sons Moving, alongside his brother Dick. Both sons joined the Marine Corps Reserves and soon served in Korea. Chet founded Chet Priestley Heating Oil in 1955 and retired from the company in 2000. Chet was extremely athletic, excelling in baseball, basketball and football; his favorite sport was basketball. He became known as "Chet the Jet" due to his quickness on the field and the court. As an adult, Chet sponsored the City League team the "Priestley Oilers" in basketball, flag football and mushball. The Oilers won numerous Championships and were often featured on the sports pages of the Portland newspapers. In his 30's, Chet became an avid golfer, playing in Pro-Am tournaments around the state. He was a regular at Glendoveer and Eastmoreland and a frequent guest at both Riverside and Columbia Edgewater.At the time of his death, Chet was married to Frances Nelson Priestley of SE Portland, whom he married in 2007, and who was a loving companion to Chet in his final years. Chet was predeceased by his wife Darlene. Chet is survived by his sons Michael (Jani) and Mitchell (Debbie) Priestley of Lake Oswego and daughter Merry Priestley Black of Las Vegas, NV. He enjoyed the company of his seven grandsons, Ben (Beth), Isaac (Josie) & Jordan (Harriet), Derek Black and Joshua, Justin & Jacob Michael Priestley. In addition, Chet was blessed to know his two great-grandsons from Ben & Beth, Eli, 8 and Asher, 5. Chet will be buried alongside Darlene at Willamette National Cemetery on Mt. Scott Wednesday November 13 at 11 a.m.
