Carlton Iver Gianella, a caring grandfather, dad, husband, uncle, and brother passed away on January 8th, 2021 at 84 years old.
He was born to Ida and Carl Gianella in Sisseton, South Dakota on August 14th, 1936. He moved to Oregon when he was 1 year old and grew up on a farm west of Donald. He served in the US Air Force for 4 years and was a Woodburn Volunteer Firefighter for over 50 years. He married Lorraine Richter Gianella on October 8th, 1955. Together they had 2 sons, Keith and Philip.
The retired crane operator and farmer cut his last crop of alfalfa this fall. He was the hardest working man you ever met and could repair or build anything. He loved horseback riding and fishing with his sons and grandkids. Every Tuesday you would find him at the Woodburn Auction trying to find the best bargain to bring home. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lorraine; sons, Keith (Glenda) of Redmond and Philip (Page) of Hubbard; grandchildren, Catherine, Tygh, Emily, Tevin, Laurie, Trey, and Trenton; and 3 great grandchildren, Benjamin, Hazel, and Kella. The grandchildren fondly remember their nicknames, his orneriness, and his detailed story telling abilities. He is also survived by his siblings; Marlene of Canby, Vermont "Buck" (Juley) of Newberg, Delver (Susan) of Arizona, and Gloria (Gene) of Woodburn. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Woodburn Fire Department or Saint Luke School. A private ceremony and burial will take place in the near future for the family and a celebration of life will be held later this summer.
