Burnadeen "Burnie" Handewith passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at the age of 91. She was born on June 21, 1932 to Henry and Nellie Olin, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Donald Handewith, and her sisters, Beth Morgan and Barbara McBride.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Strand of Oregon City, and Susan Schmiedeskamp (David) of Portland. She was a very proud grandmother to 5 grandchildren, Eric, Andrea, Shawna, Todd, and Matthew, and two step-grandchildren, Kristen and John. She was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren who all adored her. She has many nieces and nephews whom she kept in contact with. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Burnie, with her family, moved from Canada in 1945 when she was 13 years old. They settled in NE Portland. She attended Commerce High School, now known as Cleveland. She worked as a homemaker and worked part-time in the insurance industry.
Burnie and Don lived in Charbonneau, Wilsonville for over 35 years. Her last few years were spent at SpringRidge Retirement Home and recently moved to a medical facility in Happy Valley. She was blessed with many friends throughout her life and enjoyed many activities with them all. She was an avid golfer, played bridge, loved boating, traveling, and socializing with others. She attended Lake Grover Presbyterian Church for many years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Cornwell Wilsonville Funeral Home. There will be a reception to follow.
