We mourn the loss of Alfonso Santos Jr. who traveled to heaven on June 16th. Born on September 6, 1950 in Warren Minnesota, Alfonso leaves 72 years of loving memories.
Alfonso was known as a spiritual warrior of God, a man of mighty faith who danced just like King David. Alfonso would often call himself a traveling man - as part of the farmworker community, his family would move from state to state where he worked and studied in a number of school districts.
In 1973, he chose to permanently reside in Woodburn, Oregon when he met his wife, Gabriela Santos. Alfonso developed meaningful ties with his community while aiming toward his goal of working in social services. In the late 1990's he joined the Department of Human Services Workers Compensation Board and later the Self-Sufficiency Center.
Alfonso was a glass-half-full kind of man, always optimistic, radiating joy and making new friends. Community engagement was a way of life for him. A month before he passed he fullfilled his last outreach event for the homeless. Praying for others was a common thing for him. He loved adventures and would often seek out new outdoor excursions. He was a foodie! Seafood was his favorite. He LOVED his wife and his children. He adored and spoiled his grandchildren.
We will forever miss him, and our love for him is endless. Alfonso is survived by his wife, Gabriela Santos; his mother, Maria Luisa Santos; his siblings in Texas and Washington; his children, Gabby Santos, Alfonso Santos III, Antonio Santos, Sonia Marquez; and nine phenomenal grandchildren.
There will be a service honoring the life of Alfonso Santos Jr. on Saturday, July 1, 2023, 10am-2pm.
