Katherine Ann MillerApril 20, 1932 - January 8, 2012Katherine Ann Miller, 79, of Woodburn, died unexpectedly after suffering a cerebralaneurysm.Katherine was born in Brooks, Oregon on Apr 20, 1932 and was the daughter ofEdward and Ethel (Todd) Miller. She lived most of her life in Oregon but had traveled widely. She was a retired school teacher.She graduated from Donald Grade School and from Woodburn High School in 1950. She received her B.S. in Education from Oregon College of Education in Monmouth.She taught at various locations in Oregon including Dallas, Parkrose, and Arlington,as well as in New Jersey and Virginia. She also taught music at the Navy Base School in Yokosuka, Japan, as well as at the American Schools in Aschaffenberg and Berlin, Germany.Katherine traveled extensively. While teaching in Japan, she also visited Thailand. While living in Germany, she visited France, Holland, Greece, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and England as well as Russia and most of the East European Bloc nations. She was a voracious reader. Her library included over 1400 books. Besides reading and traveling, her other interests were her ever-faithful cat, "Mig", jig-saw puzzles and riding her bicycle.She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Woodburn where she enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Bible Study Classes. Survivors include her brother, Kenneth Miller (Annie) of Farmington, NM; sisters, Dorothy Schriever (Byron) of Aurora, Donna Matthieu (Rob) of Hubbard, and Diana Putnam (Todd) of Salem; nephews: Jon Pahl, Jason Pahl, Eric Matthieu, and Tom Secor, of Oregon, and Ed Schriever of Idaho; nieces: Angela DiPierre and Barbara Lutz of California, Kathy Jensen and Jenny Crawford of New Mexico, Keven Comer of Montana, Julie McClure, Shelly Hanson, Robin Johnson and Joan Monen, of Oregon.She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard; sisters, Corinne Pahl, and Virginia Miller; as well as nephews Mark Wesley Dorio and Kenneth Miller, Jr. At Katherine's request, there will be no funeral.
