Ivan Hove passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Oct. 18, 2012 from congestive heart failure. He was born in Monitor, Ore. on Jan. 22, 1938 to Harold and Ida Hove, the youngest of three children. Ivan married Martha (Marti) Waddington on Aug. 30, 1958 and they had two children. He served a pipefitter apprenticeship and became a Millwright for Owens Illinois in Portland from 1964 through 1969. He then went to work for Publisher Paper in 1969 (later bought by Smurfit Newsprint) and worked as a Millwright until his retirement in 1994.Growing up he loved sports, attending North Marion and playing football, basketball and track. He later coached Little League baseball for a number of years. He had many hobbies including gardening, jewelry making, playing guitar, waterskiing, fishing and in later years surfing the Internet. Ivan could rebuild anything, whether it was a truck, boat, combine or golf cart. A carpenter, he built cabinets and completed all the finish work on his and Marti's home. He enjoyed pyrotechnics and built a canon that he would shoot off each July 4th. He loved animals and always had dogs and cats. He raised ducks, pheasants, built a fish pond and birdhouses - all birds except Starlings were welcome. He spent many years as a weekend farmer on their 45 acres, growing wheat, alfalfa, grapes and fruit trees. Ivan loved his family so much. Lasting friendships came easily. His sense of humor never failed to make you chuckle. If you were a guest in the Hove home for any length of time, Ivan's hospitality ensured you were always well fed.Ivan is survived by his spouse of 54 years, Marti, who Ivan also affectionately called "Sugar"; two children, son Randy Hove and his wife Kate, daughter Kim Dimick and her husband Hardy, all from Canby; two grandsons, Tim Hove of Bellevue, Wash. and Chris Hove of Gladstone; sister Jean Kindrick of Albuquerque, N.M. His older sister, Edith Ludwick, preceded him in death earlier this year. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at the Hubbard Fire Hall, 3161 2nd Street, Hubbard, Ore., on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the Willamette Humane Society, PO Box 13005, Salem, Ore. 97309-1005.
